Talk Therapy
Insight-Oriented Approaches and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Most people who contact me want someone to listen, “see” them, understand and support them, providing helpful direction or insight when appropriate. Despite my love of learning the latest innovations, offering these resources, together with dream work, has always been the mainstay of my practice.
A relationship that embodies these qualities is the necessary foundation for all integrative, transformative processes. It is a truism that most emotional challenges arose in the context of relationship and can only be resolved in that context.
This is where you deepen your understanding of Self and relationship, build interpersonal and life skills, develop an integrated, coherent inner life connected to outer life, and learn to manage needs and feelings.
You deepen the capacity to love yourself and others unconditionally. This abiding self-acceptance provides fertile ground for nurturing your development throughout life.
Insight-oriented approaches seek to understand how your past life experience and personal beliefs about yourself have informed your current life circumstances. Cognitive behavioral therapy also offer insights through this process. We unconsciously recreate, in present time, past interpersonal situations that we were unable to master at the time they occurred.
Ever wonder why the present feels so much like the past? Why your boss seems so like your father? Such insight, along with deeper processing of the past as needed are cornerstones of transformation.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an approach to “talk therapy” based on the assumption that changing thought patterns and beliefs results in behavior change. We must challenge entrenched habits of thoughts as well as long-standing beliefs about ourselves that result in perpetual misery. We can become aware of these by means of all the healing modalities I use, and also use these modalities to transform them. The result is an internal mental and emotional experience that is more adaptive, flexible and positive.
